Nia Long Reflects On "Boyz N The Hood" 20 Years Later
(via The Loop21) This week marks the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking, coming of age drama Boyz N The Hood. The debut of director John Singleton, the 1991 film follows the saga of childhood friends Ricky (Morris Chestnut), Dough Boy (Ice Cube), and Tre (Cuba Gooding Jr.) in South Central L.A. Nia Long played good girl next door Brandi, the object of Tre’s affection. In an interview with Maurice Garland, Nia discusses the film’s impact, growing up in South Central and her character positive depiction of a young African American woman.
