“Rio” Keeps “Madea’s Big Happy Family” Out Of The #1 Box Office Spot
Blue Sky Studios’ animated film Rio holds on to the number one spot at the box office for a second straight week holding off Tyler Perry’s sixth film in the Madea series, Madea’s Big Happy Family. Rio pulled in an estimated $26.8 million.
Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family was expected rule the box office this weekend, and it came close, pulling in $25.8 million, just $1 million less than Rio. The film was expected to bring in at least $30 million. The last Madea film, 2009’s Madea Goes To Jail, pulled in $41 million during its opening weekend.
