The Roots annual concert festival in their hometown of Philadelphia has proven to be one of the most eclectic shows in recent years.

Past performers at the day-long show have included Gnarls Barkley, The Cool Kids, Kid CuDi, Santigold, Asher Roth, J*DaVeY, and alternative acts like The Black Keys and Lenny Kravitz’s daughter Zoe’s band Elevator Flight.

Last years’ Roots Picnic featured the band backing up Public Enemy for a complete run through of the group’s 1988 hip-hop classic It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back.

This year’s line up seems to be just as epic with a line-up including everyone from alt-rock favorites Vampire Weekend, hip-hop duo Clipse, blue-eyed soul singer Mayer Hawthorne, to a special drum & turntable set from DJ Jazzy Jeff and ?uestlove.

However the real treat for this year’s picnic is the reunion of Run DMC.

While it’s not mentioned explicitly anywhere on any of the promo materials for the show, ?uestlove’s video announcement should make it painfully obvious that Run DMC (minus Jam Master Jay, unfortunately. RIP!) will be reuniting for the June 5th show!

Tickets for the show are on sale now via LiveNation!

Who else is hoping that DJ Jazzy Jeff fills in for Jam Master Jay?
