John Legend & The Roots "I Can't Write Left Handed"
John Legend & The Roots “I Can’t Write Left Handed”
With President Obama announcing the end of the war in Iraq, it’s fitting that John Legend & The Roots released this live in-studio video of their version of Bill Withers’ “I Can’t Write Left-Handed” from their forthcoming collaborative album, Wake Up.The song is written from the perspective of a soldier wounded in the Vietnam War who wants to write a letter home to his mother. However, due to being wounded in his right arm, he’s asking for help writing the letter.
Powerful stuff, and 37 years after Bill Withers recorded the song for his Live at Carnegie Hall album, still relevant.
