On Saturday September 12th Serena Williams lost her match in the US Open semifinals to unranked Kim Clijsters 6-4, 7-5.  The loss has generated a lot of controversy because of an expletive filled tirade that led to an ill-timed point deduction.

“She was called for a foot fault, and a point later, she said something to a line umpire, and it was reported to the chair, and that resulted in a point penalty,” tournament referee Brian Earley explained. “And it just happened that point penalty was match point. It was a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct.”

According to some transcripts the bleeped out portions say:

“I swear to God I’ll f***ing take this ball and shove it down your f***ing throat! Do you hear me? I swear to God. You better be glad–you better be f***ing glad that I’m not, I swear.”
