When I was in U.S. Marines, everyone knew Shaggy was a Marine. But I never knew Nate Dogg was. But they a few people off this list. Ken Norton, Leon Spinks, Ray Mercer(all Marines), Colin Powell(Army), Joe Louis(Army), David Robinson(Navy), Morgan Freeman(Air Force), Harry Belafonte(Navy). Just to name a few lol.

I didnt know that these men were in our Armed Forces..I knew Mystical was though..I remember when he dropped that first CD in the 90′s. I was stationed on Ft.Hood as an AirDefender!!! I loved that CD. Much love to all of our serving and sacrificing service men and women. I may not agree with the reason why you guys are over in Afghanistan,Iraq but I support YOU.

But to DJ MENNIZ, just because a person served in the military doesn’t mean they forgot 400 years of slavery. And not all blacks that go in the military go in to escape the hood. Ok DJ MENNIZ I to am calling you out as a 20yr soon to be army vet I to want to know where you got your info from, not all the blacks coming in to the army are trying to get out of the HOOD as you put it, some are coming in to see the world or to make a difference doing something they believe and as for violent, we only do that when it is called for. Most of the soldiers in my Cav troop are in to be able to get the GI bill to pay for college, others to get some life experiance before college. And I have missed something how is teh military destorying our neighborhoods, are we the ones dealing crack, running gangs, you tell where is the connection.

You’re way off base brother. I am a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. Many of us joined the military to get an education, experience other cultures, see the world and gain a life experience outside of the box. Outside of the box meaning we didn’t run away from our neighborhoods. We brought something back to our neighborhoods.  Some of us may not return to the communities we grew up in but we do return to communities.We brought back from the military a life of structure, discipline, pride and responsibility. Something sorely missed in our communities and homes that are run by our single black women. Remember, many of us take our wives and children with us to explore the world. So, not only does the soldier, marine, airman and soldier live outside of the box and experience the world abroad. But, so does his wife and children. Those families thrive with the knowledge that they are not bound by circ**stances and stereotypes. Most “civilized” societies require all males join the military. Our country asks that we volunteer. Are you saying we should not have a military? Or are you saying blacks should not serve in the military? Either way, you are surely confused.The violence in our society does not have anything to do with the military. I believe you are an educated brother who does not have all the facts. If you are running for office, I salute you. But I suggest you research your information before presenting your case on any agenda you put forth. Never play the race card my brother. Its getting old. We as black men are responsible for our own individual circ**stances. By the way, are you living in the box?
