After a year’s absence Floyd Mayweather Jr. came back to do battle with Robert Guerrero Saturday night and won by a unanimous 12-round decision in a welterweight title fight.

All three judges scored the bout 117-111 in favor of Mayweather.

Said Mayweather of his bout;

“I feel bad I didn’t get the knockout tonight that the fans wanted,” Mayweather said. “I hurt my right hand.”

Mayweather was summarily booed a few times in various places. The crowd wanted to see more action than Mayweather was delivering. But he shook it off and continued to land consistent blows.

Defensively, Mayweather was the one who was a ghost, every time Guerrero went to connect a blow Mayweather had already shifted positions.

Mayweather was favored 5-1 to win, according to The Evening Sun, however, Guerrero was beasting in his last win over Andre Berto, so he was definitely considered a threat. Guerrero had not lost a fight in about 8 years and promised he was going to be the one to take out Mayweather who now stands at 44-0.

Guerrero suffered a cut over his left eye in the eighth round.

Guerrero spoke on his feelings on the match up;

“I landed some good shots on him,” Guerrero said. “Floyd’s a great defensive fighter. I thought I was going to catch him.”

We would have liked to have seen a little more action during the fight as it was pretty slow until the fifth round, and while the eighth round was pretty entertaining, it would have been cool to have seen at least a TKO by the seventh. But Mayweather of the Money Team brought it home in the end, as most thought he would.

E for effort to Guerrero, and congratulations to Mayweather, who remains the champ.
