After a less than stellar movie debut in 2012’s “Battleship,” Rihanna is taking a second chance at box office success with the Dreamworks animated movie “Home.”   Based on the best-selling children’s book “The True Meaning of Smekday,” Rih-Rih will voice Tip, a plucky and resourceful teen who manages to escape an alien invasion by the Boov, who relocate Earth’s human inhabitants and make the planet their own.  Tip teams up Oh (voiced by Jim Parsons), who the Boov have banished due to his utter incompetence.  Together, Tip and Oh go on an intergalactic journey to save her friends and family.

Jennifer Lopez will voice Tip’s mother, and Steve Martin plays the overly ambitious Captain Smek.  In addition to voiceover duties, Rihanna is reportedly working on a concept album to accompany the film.

“Home” is slated for a March 2015 release.
