In an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon, Pharrell Williams shared his thoughts on the police killing of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown and the unrest the followed in Ferguson, Mo. During the talk with Lemon, Williams’ comments touched on everything from respectability politics to President Obama‘s role in the matter.

“I’m disappointed in the way that it was handled from the government side,” said Williams. “I think that the officer should be punished, because that was excessive force—all those shots, where those shots were, the idea that the child laid on the ground, he’s a child, I know he’s 6’2 or 6’3, he’s a child.”

The singer/producer also took the opportunity to criticize the way the media painted the narrative around protests in Ferguson.
