After a day full of back and forth battling between the L.A. Clippers and the Dallas Mavericks, former free agent DeAndre Jordan has made the decision to head back to Cali.

The 26-year-old Texas native had the world in a frenzy for much of the day on Wednesday, with players from both teams even weighing in on his potential decision via social media in the form of emojis. At the height of the process just a few hours before DeAndre decided to sign with the Clippers, multiple reports claimed that the team was “holding DeAndre hostage” by refusing to leave his home until he agreed to sign with them.

Clippers star player Blake Griffin fueled the speculation by tweeting out a photo of a chair blocking a door with a comical caption once word got around that DeAndre was allegedly trapped in his own home by his new teammates.

DeAndre had originally entered a verbal agreement to sign an $80 million contract with the Mavericks on Friday, but reportedly began having second thoughts shortly after. According to USA Today, the Clippers’ unprecedented persistence paid off.

DeAndre Jordan made the stunning decision to renege on his verbal agreement to sign with the Dallas Mavericks and instead re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, agreeing to a four-year deal that will pay him approximately $87 million. According to a person with knowledge of the deal that Jordan signed when the NBA”s free agency moratorium lifted at 12:01 a.m. ET Thursday, he has a player option after the third season of the contract. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because contract details are not typically disclosed.

When Jordan had finally put pen to paper, the Clippers announced the move on Twitter with a picture of Jordan and a line that read, “We’re officially centered.” Until then, though, Jordan had left people wondering what direction he might go.
