If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if any of the group members from Next were to run into the internet star responsible for the “Why You Always Lyin” vine, which was inspired by their hit single “Too Close,” wonder no more.

In a strange twist of fate (and likely some perfectly-timed PR planning) Next lead singer R.L. found himself face to face with the 21-year-old Nicholas Fraser who has made become an overnight celebrity of sorts by turning the group’s biggest song they’ve ever released into a now-viral Vine clip.

Comedian Lil Duval was on hand to help create a short video clip of R.L.’s quick….but funny….reaction to meeting Nicholas, however, the clip apparently wasn’t as genuine as it looked.

Although all seemed well in the short video, R.L. says he’s actually not too happy about someone turning his “life’s work” into a joke. He elaborated on his annoyance with the parody song during a recent episode of the #YouKnowIGotSoul R&B podcast:

“Vlad asked me to make a video to make light of it and I did it reluctantly because I am going to be honest: I don’t know how I feel about it. You are making a parody of my life’s work. And on one end, I don’t want to be a stickler and, you know, seem like I am bitter or anything. But you are kind of making a parody of something that I really worked hard with. It is something that I continue to get residuals from and you know, it is part of my identity…I promise you, people will send me different languages and like, ‘Did you see this?’ And I’m like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I try to make light of it but it is getting to the point of overkill.”

Needless to say, it doesn’t sound like R.L. is exactly a fan of the parody song but how upset can he really be if he went out of his way to post the video of his reaction to meeting Nicholas on his own IG page?
