Who is Michael B. Jordan? For starters, he’s not a professional basketball player—hence the middle initial. Michael B. Jordan was named after his father, not the Chicago Bulls superstar, and while he’s not as famous as Air Jordan, he’s built quite a career for himself. Born in Santa Ana, California, Michael B. Jordan got his big break in 1999, when Bill Cosby cast him as Michael on his CBS sitcom “Cosby.” He went on to appear on “The Sopranos,” and in 2000, he earned a spot in the cast of “Hardball,” a baseball drama starring Keanu Reeves.

From 2009 to 2011, he played quarterback Vince Howard on “Friday Night Lights,” and since 2010, he’s portrayed Alex on “Parenthood.” Michael B. Jordan has also appeared on “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Cold Case,” “Bones” and “House,” among other shows. His film work includes “Blackout,” “Red Tails” and “Chronicle.”

“Who is Michael B. Jordan?” is a question few will be asking in years to come, as “Fruitvale Station” promises to be his breakout role. There’s already Oscar buzz surrounding his performance, though as he recently told the Huffington Post, he’s not letting it go to his head.

“It’s one of those things where you can kid yourself and act like you’re not excited or it doesn’t pique your interest a little bit, but at the end of the day, I’m not going to get my hopes up,” he said. “What is meant to happen will happen organically.”
