Although higher education has become a necessity to succeed in one’s career, not many people can afford it. In efforts to lessen the financial burden of having to pay college tuition, the White House has proposed the America’s College Promise program. Under the plan, two years of community college would be free for responsible students, giving them the opportunity to complete half of their Bachelor’s degree and garner skills that will push them ahead in the workforce. Bringing this plan to fruition will be a team effort, though.

“This proposal will require everyone to do their part: community colleges must strengthen their programs and increase the number of students who graduate, states must invest more in higher education and training, and students must take responsibility for their education, earn good grades, and stay on track to graduate,” read a statement released by the White House.

“The program would be undertaken in partnership with states and is inspired by new programs in Tennessee and Chicago.” If the entire country participates in the plan it would help 9 million students save an average of $3,800 in tuition per year.
