Black directors unite, and let’s all get down. That could have been the rallying call for the Black excellence that took over Twitter today.
Starting at 10 am, Black directors such as John Singleton, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Tyler Perry, and Malcolm D. Lee joined Ava DuVernay for a Tweet-a-thon for the black filmmakers collective AFFRM (African American Film Festival Releasing Movement). Using the hashtag #ARRAY, DuVernay and the filmmakers have been answering questions from fans and supporters about their experiences trying to tell stories about Black people. Many of the directors discussed how they got started, making their most popular films, and gave advice to other aspiring Black filmmakers.
