A few weeks ago Conway The Machine dropped his Shady Records debut album, God Don’t Make Mistakes and reminded everyone that he isn’t out here taking prisoners, he bringing body bags along with him because when he spits it’s every man for himself.

Yesterday the Buffalo bully checked into The Breakfast Club to talk about how his life has been since becoming one of the most recognizable rappers in the music game and the pros and cons that come with it.

Talking with Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee, Conway touches on rumors of his split from Griselda, why he lowkey regrets signing with Eminem’s Shady Records, and how being shot up left him scarred for life.

Here are the 10 things we learned from Conway The Machine on The Breakfast Club.

Though he’s reached the end of his paperwork with Griselda Records, Conway says their relationship remains the same and he’s still Griselda as he helped build that alongside Benny The Butcher and Westside Gunn.

Conway says that his man, Hip-Hop introduced him to Kanye West at Sunday Service in California and the two hit it off right off the bat. Though he says he got close to Kanye in the time he spent together, his relationship with Eminem he says was more “business” than anything.

As for why he decided to sign with Shady Records, Conway says he saw what Em did with 50 Cent at a time when 50 was being blackballed and he felt Em gave him the best “engine” to help me him make his run in the rap game. He does admit that it was a good and bad decision. Though he was able to live his dream and work wit Em, he does say he kind of wishes he would’ve did it on his own as he made it this far without any help.

Talking about his first record contract, Conway says he didn’t even read the contract before signing it and basically got pocket change at the end of the day. Now he’s on point about his deals and “don’t trust nobody no more” due to how things unfolded when he came into the game.

When he was working with Kanye West on Donda, Conway had to abide by Ye’s ungodly rules of no drinking or smoking while with him. The Machine admits that it did affect him creatively the first couple of days saying he “laid a brick” because he couldn’t expand his mind and was working on “gospel” music. Being that he never went to church like that he felt like he was out of his element and wasn’t able to get into the mental state he’d need to be in to create at the time. Eventually he knew he didn’t need weed to do his thing and was able to crank out some bangers on the sober tip.

Conway says he can’t even finish his verse on “The Cow” because he’ll break down crying whenever he performs it. Damn, that’s deep.

Touching on mental health, Conway says that he did do a few therapy classes to help him “unpack” a lot of things and it helped. But now he just uses “plant based” meds to help him get through his ups and downs. He does say he wants to revisit those therapy sessions sooner or later.

Conway acknowledges that he’s a “people pleaser” and is one of those people that “doesn’t know how to say “no” sometimes.” Man, now heads are REALLY going to be approaching him with their hands out whenever they run into him.

Speaking about the time he got shot, Conway says that people “thought it was over for me” and some even stole money from him while he was laid up in the hospital straight up taking advantage of him while he was helpless. Having experienced that, Conway says he doesn’t fear death though he doesn’t want to die. Aside from nerve damage, the shooting that he survived did ultimately leave him with a sense of paranoia that he can’t shake to this day.

Conway says that it was Jill Scott’s idea to rap on his record, “Chanel Pearls” and he was feeling it. Who would’ve thought she wanted to rap?
