The drama is not going away for one Pastor Ma$e Betha. The one time Bad Boy artist is being taken to task by his congregation for slipping back into old habits. According to TMZ the rapper turned pastor’s recent filing for divorce and appearances on rap songs about infidelity run contrary to what he is preaching on Sunday morning.
Some of the worshipers tell TMZ … they believe Mase is living a double life, spending as much time in the studio with hardcore rappers as in the church. And they say his messages from the pulpit drip in hypocrisy, because what he raps about is exactly the opposite.
The song in question is not an oldie but goodie, but a new song he recorded with singer Remo The Hitmaker called “Tricky Situation.” Ma$e lends his Puff Daddy like adlibs and raps about sleeping with a woman who is engaged, “I get the honeymoon, you marry her…” and closes the verse with “Too bad I never keep my word…”
Some could argue that Ma$e is embodying a character on the microphone but the message still runs afoul of what he tells his congregation about keeping marriage sacred. Watch one of his sermons below where he says, “You can win your whole marriage back with this statement, ‘The devil is a liar.’ People spend so much time fighting each other that they don’t spend no time fighting FOR each other.”
The Harlem native recorded two albums for Bad Boy Records before retiring from music in 1999 to answer a “calling from God.” However, after a five-year hiatus he released an album called “Welcome Back” in 2004 and attempted to sign with G-Unit Records, but could not get out of his original contract with Bad Boy. He was eventually granted a release from the label in 2012 and is announced the recording of a new album, “Now We Even.”
