Perhaps weary of trying to please every age group with its programming, BET [click here to read] has decided to create a new channel aimed specifically at an older black demographic, leaving the youngins by themselves to enjoy the youth-oriented main channel.
Due in October, Centric will offer fare targeted to black viewers age 25 through 54, according to the Associated Press. It will premiere with an expected reach of 45 million cable homes.
BET, the leading network tailored for black teens and young adults, is currently available in 89 million homes and is in its 29th year.
